With tax season almost upon us, we wanted to compile a definitive list of all tax filing deadline dates to help with your preparation. Below you’ll find a list of the year’s most important deadline dates with an explanation of what is due.

Tax-return-deadline

January 31st, 2017

This is applicable to businesses only and is the deadline for filing and remitting Goods and Service Tax/Harmonized Services Tax (GST/HST) for the previous quarterly reporting period.

March 1st, 2017

This is the deadline for contributing to your Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RSSP) for the previous tax year.

March 15th, 2017

On this date you can expect to pay your quarterly installment of taxes to the CRA if you are on a quarterly payment plan.

April 30th, 2017: TAX DEADLINE

This is the most important deadline to bear in mind – the CRA’s personal and self-employed income tax filing deadline. It’s worth noting that penalties can be applied to amounts owing for late filing. April 30th is also a due date for businesses to remember for filing and remitting GST and HST taxes for the previous quarter.

June 15th, 2017

Self-employed persons should file their personal income tax returns on this CRA deadline. On this date, quarterly installments are also due for those who pay the CRA in installments.

July 31st, 2017

This is the deadline for businesses to file and remit GST and HST taxes relating to the previous quarterly period.

September 15th, 2017

This is the deadline for quarterly tax installments paid to the CRA in installments.

November 30th, 2017

Final due date of 2017 for filing and remitting GST and HST taxes relating to the previous quarter. Once again, this is only applicable to businesses.

December 15th, 2017

This marks the final due date of 2017 for payment of installments to the CRA.

December 31st, 2017

This is an important deadline for those who turn 71 in 2017 – December 31st is the final day you will be able to contribute to your Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP).
