Common questions

Compilation engagements, answered

A compilation organizes management's financial information into standard statements with no assurance provided. A review offers limited assurance through analytical procedures and inquiry. An audit provides the highest level of assurance through detailed testing and verification. Most small, owner-managed businesses only need a compilation.
In most cases, yes — compiled statements are commonly accepted for smaller loans and lines of credit. Larger financing amounts sometimes require a review or audit instead; we'll confirm what your specific lender needs before you apply.
Notice to Reader engagements were replaced by CSRS 4200 in December 2021. The new standard covers similar ground but has more defined procedures and a revised report format — ABS prepares all compilations to the current CSRS 4200 standard.
Most private, owner-managed corporations without external shareholders or specific lender/regulatory requirements only need a compilation. We'll help you confirm what your specific situation requires before you commit to a higher level of assurance than necessary.
